Membership & Census

Like every officially organized human group our Community is similarly consisted of registered members with certain attributes, rights and obligations. According to the Constitution of our Archdiocese of Thyateira and Great Britain, members of the Community may be the “baptized Greek Orthodox Christians, 20 years of age or more, who respect its Constitution, believe and live the faith of the Greek Orthodox Church, and pay their annual dues to the Community” (Constitution, article 3, paras 1 και 2). In addition, among the priest’s tasks is provided that he “maintains a register of all local Orthodox in a special book, keeping this up to date and using it when mailing letters and announcements of the Community” (Constitution, article 4, para 5).

As a matter of fact, all male and female adult Greeks and Greek-Cypriots baptized as Orthodox Christians along with their spouses equally baptized as Orthodox Christians and irrespective of their national origin may become members of our Community, so as to have the right to either vote for or be elected as members of its Committees provided their annual membership fees are not outstanding. This is the only distinction between members and Greek Orthodox in general, all residing in the area of our Community’s jurisdiction. Otherwise, all, members and non-, equally participate in worship, events and enroll their children in the Greek School of the Community.

Registering as a member is not only a matter of acquiring voting rights. As already mentioned, it is equally important that the Community is aware of the contact details of all Greek Orthodox, so that communication with them for whatever regular or extraordinary is of their concern is able (eg Services programme, Social events, Spiritual counseling, administrative issues etc). Living in the age of mostly free-of-charge means of digital communication, for the Community to be aware of an email address or a mobile phone would be vital to access its members and every Greek Orthodox instantly for a variety of matters.

Furthermore, it is equally important that the Community/Parish, as the spiritual mother of all Orthodox of the wider area, is allowed the “colours” to draw an accurate picture of her “children’s” problems and issues, to design, suggest and materialize the best possible solutions in cooperation with them.

This is why we are asking you to notify us your contact details, according to the example below and send them at secretary@greekorthodoxcommunityleeds.org.uk (information gathered to be treated according to the protection of personal data current legislation)
